Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach to resolving stress and healing trauma. Trauma may begin as acute stress from a perceived life-threat or as the end product of cumulative stress. SE offers a framework to become aware of and work with your nervous system responses of  fight, flight and freeze.  The SE approach facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of thwarted survival energy bound in the body, thus addressing the root cause of trauma symptoms. This is approached by gently increasing tolerance for difficult bodily sensations and suppressed emotions.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems is an approach that centers the idea we are all made up of multiple parts led by Self. Each part has a vital role to play in the system and IFS helps people to heal from trauma and stress by getting to know their parts and healing wounds that have led the parts to take on extreme roles and overwhelm the Self. In an IFS session we bring curiosity and compassion as we seek to understand the parts and move towards being more Self-led.

Somatic Coaching

Somatic Coaching is a style of developmental coaching that incorporates the wisdom of the body. In coaching sessions I will facilitate a process for you to identify a goal for change, create a commitment statement, and develop a plan for action. As you seek to change behaviors and thought patterns we will hold space for the ways those behaviors and thoughts supported you in the past, and create space for change moving into the future. Coaching is an iterative process that is best done over multiple sessions. Elements of SE and IFS may be incorporated if helpful in the process.

Trauma and Tension Releasing Exercises (TRE)® are a series of exercises that help the body to release deeply held muscular tension due to stress, trauma, and tension. During TRE, a self-controlled, natural shaking mechanism is activated to release muscular tension and calm the nervous system. The benefits of TRE include a greater feeling of calm with less worry and anxiety, reduced muscle pain, greater emotional resiliency, and more energy and endurance.

Whether you have past experiences of stress and trauma that are limiting your best self or you are in the midst of a big change, your body is a key ally in keeping you safe. When the body experiences stress, and does not have an opportunity to resolve and release it, we continue to carry the stress in our tissues creating a wide variety of symptoms affecting our mood, sleeping patterns, weight, self-esteem, and physical sensations (e.g. pain, disconnection).


The good news is that we can release the stress, integrate the experience into the body, and resolve the symptoms. By learning the unique cues your nervous system uses to communicate safety and stress, you can learn tools to become more resilient, increase your overall well-being, and live a more embodied life.
